Description: Founded in 1843 by Charles Roach Smith, Thomas Wright and Thomas Joseph Pettigrew, The British Archaeological Association aims to encourage the recording, preservation, and publication of archaeological discoveries.

Their yearly journal publication, of which continues to the present day, serves to encourage further research into the medieval art, archaeology, and architecture of Britain.

This run of books comprises Volume I, published 1845 to Volume LXVI published 1909 inclusive. (66 volumes in total.)

This whole collection originally being from the Halifax Antiquarian Society Library, since withdrawn.

Each volume is profusely illustrated with black and white and colour plates, fold out illustrations, drawings and in text illustrations. 

Additional to the 66 volumes is a separate Index comprised for Volumes I - XXV. Blind embossed boards with title in gilt to spine of which the head and tail is slightly bumped. Internally fine and binding remains solid. Top edge gilt.

Volumes 51 - 66  become the 'second series' thus sub titled Vol 1 - 16 thereafter.

This is a unique opportunity to acquire a substantial run of these rare, wonderfully preserved early publications.

Condition: Sixty - six volumes uniformly bound in half calf with marbled paper boards and sprinkled edges. Leather labels to spine with gilt lettering and tooling. Publication year to spine of each volume. The joints and bindings of each volume are absolutely solid with no wear to the spines. Internally, pages show no imperfections and no foxing. Only some very minor shelf wear and some very light scuffing to the leather spines and corners.
