Bindery

Stephen Conway (Bookbinders) Ltd was established in 1985. Born in 1958, Stephen has been a time served professional bookbinder for over 35 years.
In 2002 he became a Fellow of Designer Bookbinders and from 2010, served two terms as President of the Society.
The bindery works mainly on edition binding and presentation work, including box-making and book repairs. Design bindings are made to commission. Please contact us for enquires.

Below are some examples of the projects we have been involved with over recent years.
Design Bindings are usually commissioned by collectors, book dealers or Libraries and institutions with large modern book collections. Many of these bindings are now housed in collections worldwide, with several now in the collection of The Lilly Library, Indiana. If you would like to know more about commissioning bindings, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
For several years now, a design binding has been made on behalf of the Booker Foundation, one of the UK's most prestigious literary awards.
Pictured here is the most recent of these, a binding for the Booker Prize shortlisted author Nadifa Mohamed on her book “The Fortune Men”, published in 2021.

Prior to this was a design binding done for presentation to Margaret Atwood on her book “The Testaments”, published in 2019.

For several years now we have worked with the London Publisher Addison Publications Limited.
Our first project was a magnificent limited edition of “The Highgrove Florilegium, followed shortly afterwards by ‘The Transylvania Florilegium”, both books being records of plants and flowers in a particular area at a given moment in time. For more information regarding these wonderful editions, please contact Addison Publications.
