About

Stephen Conway (Bookbinders) Ltd was established in 1985. Born in 1958, Stephen has been a time served professional bookbinder for over 35 years. In 2002 he became a Fellow of Designer Bookbinders and from 2010, served two terms as President of the Society.

In 2017, the business moved into new premises, a double fronted shop in Halifax, West Yorkshire, with space for a dedicated bookshop. In September 2022, expansion of the bookshop across 3 rooms began.
You will find unusual and interesting books on a broad range of subjects many signed and collectable. We have a large selection of first edition books in fine bindings, bound by ourselves, making ideal gifts for book lovers and collectors.
The bindery works mainly on edition binding and presentation work, including box-making and book repairs. Design bindings are made to commission. Please contact us for enquiries.

A note about book condition and our grading system.
In general, we use only two categories only unless otherwise stated.
Fine/fine indicates that both the jacket and the book are in collectable condition with no major faults whatsoever. This will be a book virtually as new.
Excellent indicates that the condition is very acceptable and can be close to fine. Minor issues might include tanned page edges, slight fading to jacket covers and dusty book edges. If there is a specific issue, it will be mentioned in the item description.
